On Saturday 12 November 2022 we were delighted to host our annual Winter Open House. The first was held in 2019 and was a great success, so it was wonderful to be able to open our doors and raise a glass with everyone again after another challenging yet fruitful year.
We were absolutely bowled over by the attendance and support for this special event, particularly as the proceeds from the ticket sales went to our chosen local charity, Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Plus it gave us the opportunity to celebrate some of our amazing local partners and to come together under one roof to bring some seasonal cheer.
In addition to our exquisite English wines, we had the pleasure of pouring the range from our southern French sister estate, Domaine Sainte Rose.
We are pleased and proud to announce that the total raised for Demelza Hospice Care for Children from our Winter Open House Event is £832.00.
Petra Bones, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Demelza, expressed her thanks on behalf of the charity; "Demelza will give every child we see the very best care we can over the holidays – this is only possible with the support of our community - people like you, your team and customers. Your support will help us to wave a magic wand over children with serious or terminal conditions this Christmas, to make sure they receive the expert medical care they need – and the Christmas fun and joy they deserve."
We would also like to give thanks to everyone who attended and donated. We look forward to supporting Demelza again in 2023.
Additionally, we would like to extend our thanks to three of our fantastic local suppliers, who joined our Winter Open House Event to make it even more special. The marvellous Macknade joined in the celebrations with some fantastic festive fayre to sample and purchase.
Annie Brown Aromathérapie presented her boutique cosmetics, which are crafted using locally-sourced products, including lees from our winery to make her rustic soaps.
The recently opened Gilda Bakery provided beautiful, freshly-baked mince pies for all to enjoy, alongside a welcome drink of Canterbury Rose Sparkling Rosé 2019.
As an exciting extra, Simpsons' Wine Estate was also delighted to offer VIP Masterclass Experiences on the day.
Assistant Winemaker, Den’e Van Wyk, accompanied by Charles and Ruth Simpson, guided guests through a very special tasting of our premium wine releases.
Nestled in the elegant Glass House Tasting Room, which offers a superb vantage point over our world-class winery, the Masterclass gave guests the unique opportunity to delve deeper into the magic of winemaking and the chance to ask questions throughout the sessions.
It was a joy to revel in the complexity of our luxurious White Cliffs Blanc de Blancs and recently crowned 'National Champion' Flint Fields Blanc de Noirs, together with an exclusive tasting of The Q Class 2020 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir magnums.
Demelza Hospice Care for Children provides support for over 600 children with serious or terminal conditions. Their team works tirelessly to offer expert nursing care for children and their families. This is really important at this time of year and the Demelza team are planning to make some very special festive memories for the families in their care.
