Simpsons’ Wine Estate is delighted to announce that their flagship still wine, The Roman Road Chardonnay 2018 has been awarded a Platinum Medal and the highest accolade of “Best in Show” in the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards.  This award is only bestowed upon the top 50 wines entered into what is the largest and most influential, international wine competition.

This is the third vintage of The Roman Road Chardonnay, which was produced during the incredible harvest of 2018.  Created using Estate-grown Burgundian still clone 548, the grapes were hand-harvested during the last week of October, when the fruit had attained the perfect balance of aroma, flavour and acidity.

Exuding a true sense of place, this elegant single-vineyard, Chardonnay displays pineapple and apricot aromas, complemented with sweet oak, clementine and mixed spice flavours and finishing in a luxurious, textured palate.

This is a huge achievement for Simpsons’ Wine Estate, which is cultivating a reputation as one of the most highly respected, still wine producers in the UK.  Their wines have been incredibly well received by consumers, premium retailers and luxury hospitality establishments across the UK.  They also now have an expanding profile in the export market, particularly Scandinavia.

Co-Founders Ruth & Charles Simpson are “thrilled with this accolade from such a highly respected, global competition.  We are incredibly proud of this Chardonnay and feel that this award reflects Britain’s increasing influence as a quality still wine producer within the international wine industry.

The success at the Decanter World Wine Awards is the crowning glory for Simpsons’ Wine Estate as they embark on the 2020 harvest.
