It has been a good summer growing season for the young vines at the Simpsons’ Wine Estate vineyard in Barham. Kent has again proven to be the sunniest corner of the UK and those sunshine hours have ensured good growth and root establishment throughout the vineyard. No shortage of water either with the chalky soils proving their worth, holding moisture during the dry periods but draining quickly after heavy rain.The vineyard has flourished under the watchful eye of Darryl Kemp, our Vineyard Manager who joined Simpsons’ Wine in April. He has been sharing his meticulous methods and vine care with a small team of local students and Barham residents who have been employed to help train the young vines up the metal support stakes to the fruit wire over the past couple of months. This is an extremely important and delicate task, which they have just completed.</span></p>
