Tasting Notes

This unique, still, white Pinot Meunier displays a pale gold hue, lightly tinged with a delicate pink. On the nose, it is reminiscent of a Kentish orchard in the spring, with inviting aromas of pear and apple dancing with white blossom notes. On the palate there are hints of pear and red winter berries with a luxuriously mouth-filling texture and bright finish.

Technical Details

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Meunier

Alcohol: 13% Vol

Harvesting & Vinification: Pinot Meunier grapes from the Railway Hill vineyard, overlooking the picturesque hamlet of Derringstone, were picked and carefully pressed. The juice settled for 48 hours before racking, underwent a long, slow primary fermentation using aromatic yeasts and completed full malolactic fermentation.

Secondary Fermentation & Ageing: The wine rested over the winter months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks to build depth and palate weight before bottling in spring 2023.

Reviews

“Simpsons has produced a vinous unicorn…ripened to perfection here, a revelation of stewed-peach credentials.”

Rob Buckhaven, The Metro

"The Enigma...Curious and enticing in equal measure with its salmon pink hue suggesting a gentle rosé yet the wine delivers a complex, dry and textured palate. Not a rose, not an orange creature but a wine in its own right. The scents of rose, talcum powder, strawberry and quince/medlar can be found on the nose and palate. It is dry, balanced and harmonious with a tantalising palate. A long finish displaying an array of orchard fruits and a mineral core."

Clive Barlow, Master of Wine

"The bar was set for Simpsons' after their range of English sparklings garnered critical acclaim across the wine world, but their recently released stills are equally impressive. Created from grapes grown in the North Downs, the Derringstone Pinot Meunier displays impressive purity and complexity from relatively young vines. Expect poached winter berries with a touch of balsamic acidity and a rich mouthfeel. A glass will inevitably lead to a bottle, but who are we to judge?"
