In 2012 the Simpsons invested in 90 acres (30 hectares) of prime viticultural land in Barham, Kent. This investment was driven by the suitability of this land to plant vines, based on aspect, slope and soil analyses. They will plant the vineyard in thirds and began in 2014, planting 30 acres (10 hectares) with the finest clones and rootstock of the three champagne varieties. Their goal is to produce top quality English Sparkling Wine.
The Simpsons are now looking for an appropriately qualified (PA 1,2&3 spray certificates, forklift certificate, etc), committed, enthusiastic individual to join this start-up English Sparkling Wine project. They are looking for a Farm Supervisor who is prepared to be based in Barham (7 miles south of Canterbury, Kent). The successful candidate would be responsible for the day-to-day management of the vineyard, the supervision of additional temporary labour as necessary and the planning and execution of further vineyard plantations in the future. Being part of this start-up venture will open up enormous opportunities for further development as the business grows.
There would also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain experience working as part of the Simpson’s French team at Domaine de Sainte Rose. Given the synergies between the two businesses, there will be many instances when expertise will be shared and participation in both operations will be encouraged.
